Lent in Review
As we enter into the most holy week of our year, we meditate on the one sacrifice that is truly acceptable to God: the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross.
In the last five weeks, we have offered our own sacrifices of humility, praise, peace, charity, and mercy. These offerings, united with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, also become pleasing to the Lord.
Take time to look back through the last five weeks. What sacrifice was hardest? Did you often come to Mass emptyhanded? The good news is that, even if you forgot to make the sacrifices each week, the Mass itself moves us through each one. From the penitential rite at the start (humility, mercy) through the preface to the canon (thanksgiving) through the Our Father, with all five, we have the opportunity to make each of the sacrifices, simply by praying attentively at Mass. These offerings aren't only for Lent. Recall them at every time you pray the Mass.

Holy Tuesday
Chrism Mass
All are welcome at the diocesan Chrism Mass!
March 31st 2pm-4pm at St. Augustine Cathedral.
Bishop Lohse will preside over this Mass, during which all the priests of our diocese will renew their vows and the Easter candles and chrism oils used for sacraments in the next year will all be blessed.

"Spy" Wednesday
Though we don't use this title very frequently, Wednesday of Holy Week is the day we remember Judas's betrayal of Jesus.

Holy Thursday

Mass of the Lord's Supper
At this liturgy, we commemorate the Last Supper, when Christ instituted the Eucharist and washed the disciples feet before going out to pray and being arrested. Following the Mass, the Eucharist will be removed from the main Church and moved to an altar of repose, reminding us that Jesus was arrested and taken away on this night.

Adoration & Pilgrimage
After the Last Supper, Christ went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He asked his apostles to wait up with Him, but they fell asleep. Every Holy Thursday, we have the opportunity to "stay up" with the Lord in the tabernacle of repose.

Liturgy of the Lord's Passion
Liturgy of the Passion is not a Mass; there is no consecration. Instead, the Liturgy consists of Liturgy of the Word, Veneration of the Cross, and distribution of pre-consecrated Hosts at Communion.

Stations, Confessions, & Tenebrae
Following Stations and confessions, St. Monica will hold a Tenebrae service with sung prayer and readings or "lessons" from Scripture that foreshadow the Passion.

Holy Saturday: Easter Vigil
On Holy Saturday, we remember Christ in the tomb and await His Resurrection. There are no Masses or Confessions until the Vigil.
